ms brownlow

ms brownlow carves wooden teeth
from unsuitable wood
her 2 year old daughter
watches from her hook on the wall
the trapdoor in the kitchen
rises and falls
a melon rests in an ornate bowl
precisely placed
and unmoving
when night arrives
she sits erect
as still as the fruit
precisely placed
until the morning star
is visible through the shutters
when she resumes her carving
and shavings gather at her feet
