ms greer

ms greer applies 1000 cotton threads
to each eyelid
with the glue she keeps in a sandstone box
she ties the other ends of the threads to the chandelier
and stands throughout the hours
her clothes become wet with tears
small fish (she imagines)
may one day appear in the pool which forms at her feet
when finally she blinks
the threads are released from her eyelids
she leaves them hanging from the chandelier
until she has replaced the tube of glue
in the soapstone box
when this has been done
she lights the threads
with a single match
and watches the young and eager flames
race towards the artificial crystal
